Target Information
MAP3K5 (ASK1) is a serine/threonine kinase abundantly expressed in human heart and pancreas. It is activated in response to various extracellular stimuli, including cytokines, growth factors, and environmental stresses.
ASK1 (apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1), also known as MAPKKK5, activates MKK4 and MKK6, which in turn activate JNK and p38 MAP kinases, respectively.
ASK1/MAPKKK5 is activated by TNFR and Fas through interactions with TRAF family members and Daxx. Overexpression of ASK1 induces apoptotic cell death, while a catalytically inactive form inhibits TNF-α-induced apoptosis.
ASK1 is expressed in various human and mouse tissues.
