Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+) as electron acceptors.
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported — three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The IDH1 gene encodes the NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase found in the cytoplasm and peroxisomes. It contains a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence and plays a role in regenerating NADPH for intraperoxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
