Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NeuroG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining cell type during development. It plays dual roles in cell-fate specification — promoting neurogenesis as a transcriptional activator and inhibiting astrocyte differentiation. NeuroG1 achieves this by sequestering the CREB-binding protein transcription complex away from astrocyte differentiation genes and inhibiting STAT transcription factors essential for gliogenesis.
