Target Information
The three KINDLINs are a novel family of focal adhesion proteins that localize to integrin adhesion sites. KINDLIN proteins contain a centrally located FERM domain interrupted by a pleckstrin homology (PH) domain.
KINDLIN1 and KINDLIN2 are widely expressed and play essential roles in integrin-mediated adhesion and spreading. KINDLIN3, in contrast, is restricted to hematopoietic cells and is abundant in megakaryocytes and platelets.
Studies have shown misregulation of KINDLINs in various cancers, and KINDLIN3 is essential for platelet integrin activation and signaling, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for modulating integrin activation in platelets and leukocytes.
