Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes. This protein belongs to the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is involved in multidrug resistance and antigen presentation. The ABCB6 half-transporter is associated with mitochondrial function and is localized to chromosome 2q26. It is considered a candidate gene for lethal neonatal metabolic syndrome, a disorder of mitochondrial function.
