Target Information
The hnRNP M gene encodes a member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs), which are RNA-binding proteins that associate with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. While predominantly nuclear, some hnRNPs shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. hnRNP M contains three quasi-RRM domains that bind RNA and acts as part of an N-acetylglucosamine-specific receptor involved in selective recycling of immature GlcNAc-bearing thyroglobulin molecules. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
