Target Information
The DRD2 (Dopamine Receptor D2) is involved in neuromodulation of appetitive behaviors. It may be associated with alcoholism and other substance-use disorders. In mice, DRD2 mutations lead to suppression of reward behavior with morphine and reduction of spontaneous movements, resembling Parkinson’s disease. Three alternatively spliced isoforms have been identified. DRD2 is expressed in various brain regions, as well as in aorta, artery, eye, and spinal cord. ESTs have been isolated from normal pituitary and from brain, colon, lung, pancreas, and skeletal muscle cancer libraries.
