Target Information
Cathepsin C, also known as dipeptidyl aminopeptidase I (DPPI), is a tetrameric lysosomal cysteine peptidase belonging to the papain family. It is involved in intracellular protein degradation and processing of protein precursors, participating in cell growth, neuraminidase activation, and platelet factor XIII activation. Cathepsin C is related to other lysosomal cysteine proteinases such as cathepsin B, H, and L. It sequentially removes dipeptides from the amino terminus and requires chloride ions and thiols for full enzymatic activity. Cathepsin C is expressed in various tissues, most abundantly in spleen, kidney, cytotoxic lymphocytes, and myeloid cells, where it localizes to secretory granules. It is synthesized as a proenzyme that is processed into two chains forming the mature enzyme.
