Target Information
This gene encodes the large subunit of DNA damage-binding protein, a heterodimer composed of large and small subunits. The protein functions in nucleotide-excision repair, and defective activity causes the repair defect in patients with xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group E (XPE). Mutation analysis is required to confirm whether the defect in XPE patients is in this gene or the small subunit gene. Additionally, Best vitelliform macular dystrophy is mapped to the same region on chromosome 11q, though no sequence alterations of this gene have been demonstrated in Best disease patients.
