Target Information

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are members of a superfamily of ligand-gated ion channels that mediate fast signal transmission at synapses.
The family member CHRNA7, located on chromosome 15, is associated with several neuropsychiatric disorders and forms a hybrid with the FAM7A gene.
Alternative splicing produces two variants. The truncated proteins predicted from these variants lack the neurotransmitter-gated ion-channel ligand-binding domain but retain the transmembrane region forming the ion channel.
Although transcription of this hybrid gene is supported, translation of the receptor-like protein has not been confirmed.
