Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about half of the blood serum protein. It functions as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin (molecular weight ~65,000) is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, processed to proalbumin, and then cleaved in the Golgi apparatus to form secreted albumin.
