Target Information
DEAD box proteins are characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) and are putative RNA helicases. They participate in processes involving RNA secondary structure alteration such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some members are implicated in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
DDX50 is a DEAD box enzyme potentially involved in ribosomal RNA synthesis or processing. DDX50 and DDX21 (RH-II/GuA) share similar genomic structures and are tandemly oriented on chromosome 10, suggesting gene duplication. DDX50 has pseudogenes on chromosomes 2, 3, and 4. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants, though only one full-length variant is defined.
