Target Information

The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCB2 (PKC beta II), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, tissue distribution, localization, and substrate specificity.
Conventional PKC isoforms (alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma) are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC can be activated by calcium and diacylglycerol and phosphorylates diverse protein targets involved in cellular signaling.
PKC family members also act as receptors for phorbol esters, tumor-promoting compounds. PRKCB2 participates in B cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial cell proliferation, intestinal sugar absorption, and may regulate neuronal functions related to stress responses.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
