Background
The Ah receptor (AhR) is a ligand-activated helix-loop-helix transcription factor that regulates biological responses to planar aromatic hydrocarbons. It modulates xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes such as cytochrome P450. Before ligand binding, AhR is sequestered in the cytoplasm; upon ligand binding, it translocates to the nucleus and activates transcription of target genes.
