Background
Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are complex ion channels involved in regulating neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.
The KCNV2 gene encodes a member of the potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily V, identified as a “silent subunit.” It does not form homomultimers but forms heteromultimers with other subfamily members, thereby modulating their function. This protein is strongly expressed in the pancreas and weakly expressed in several other tissues. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
