Background
Alpha-1-adrenergic receptors (α1-ARs) belong to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. They mediate mitogenic responses and regulate cell growth and proliferation. There are three α1-AR subtypes: α1A, α1B, and α1D, all signaling through the Gq/11 family of G-proteins. Each subtype exhibits distinct activation patterns. The ADRA1A gene encodes the alpha-1A-adrenergic receptor. Alternative splicing produces four transcript variants encoding isoforms with distinct C-termini but similar ligand-binding properties.
