Target Information
Thrombospondin proteins (TSP 1–5) are glycoproteins involved in cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix signaling. These extracellular, cell-surface proteins form homo- and hetero-multimers. Thrombospondins play roles in development, platelet aggregation, cell adhesion, migration, and progression through the growth cycle.
Thrombospondin 1 is released from platelets in response to thrombin stimulation and contributes to extracellular matrix formation during tissue development and repair.
Thrombospondin 2 shares high homology with Thrombospondin 1 and has overlapping but distinct functions.
Thrombospondin 3 is a heparin-binding protein regulated during development, while Thrombospondin 4 is neuronally expressed and promotes neurite outgrowth.
