DLX3 (Distal-less homeobox 3) 단백질은 표피 조직의 발달 및 분화 과정에서 작용하는 전사 활성화因자로 알려져 있습니다.
이 단백질은 Drosophila의 Distal-less와 관련된 homeodomain 전사 인자로, 신경능선, 모낭, 치아 상피, 중배엽, 시각 및 후각판, 사지 싹, 태반 등 다양한 조직에서 발현됩니다.
또한 Xenopus 배아의 전방 신경판에 위치한 cement gland에서도 발현이 관찰됩니다.
