Target Information
Adaptins are essential components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or trans-Golgi network to lysosomes. The adaptin family includes alpha, beta, beta-prime, and gamma adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, they form a heterotetrameric adaptor complex that promotes clathrin-coated pit and vesicle formation. The AP1G1 gene encodes a gamma-adaptin protein, part of the adaptor complex large subunit family, with two transcript variants producing different isoforms.
