Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromosomal fibers. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. These structures compact DNA into chromatin, limiting accessibility to transcription, replication, and repair machineries. Histones play a key role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. H2B also exhibits broad antibacterial activity.
