Target Information
This gene encodes N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase, a lysosomal exohydrolase required for degradation of glycosaminoglycans such as keratan sulfate and chondroitin 6-sulfate.
Sequence alterations—including point, missense, nonsense mutations, and splicing defects—result in enzyme deficiency, leading to Morquio A syndrome, a lysosomal storage disorder.
