Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in various carcinomas, including intestinal and pulmonary adenocarcinomas.
CEA belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family and functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It is a useful tumor marker for adenocarcinomas of endodermally derived epithelial tissues.
- Found in adenocarcinomas of the digestive system and fetal colon
- Useful for differentiating pulmonary adenocarcinomas (CEA positive) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA positive)
- Located within a 1.2 Mb gene cluster on chromosome 19
- Involved in tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation
