Target Information
SETD8 is a histone methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates Lys-20 of histone H4.
This modification is enriched during mitosis and acts as a tag for epigenetic transcriptional repression.
SETD8 functions mainly in euchromatin regions, contributing to silencing of euchromatic genes and proper DNA structure maintenance during mitosis.
It is also involved in chromosome condensation and cytokinesis. Nucleosomes are preferred substrates compared to free histones.
