Target Information
NAD-dependent protein deacetylase sirtuin-1 (SIRT1) links transcriptional regulation directly to intracellular energetics and participates in the coordination of several cellular functions such as cell cycle, DNA damage response, metabolism, apoptosis, and autophagy.
SIRT1 modulates chromatin function through histone deacetylation and can promote alterations in histone and DNA methylation, leading to transcriptional repression.
It is essential in skeletal muscle cell differentiation and mediates inhibitory effects under low nutrient conditions involving AMPK and NAMPT.
