Target Information
p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase progression and acts as a possible mediator of TGFβ-induced G1 arrest. It is a key regulator of the cell cycle, inhibiting cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes. p27 Kip1 also interacts with cyclin D-CDK4 complexes, influencing their assembly and activation depending on phosphorylation state. The protein (~27 kDa) undergoes CDK-dependent phosphorylation and ubiquitination via SCF complexes, which is essential for transition from quiescence to proliferation.
