ATP6V1C2 encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme mediating acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase-dependent organelle acidification is essential for:

• Protein sorting
• Zymogen activation
• Receptor-mediated endocytosis
• Synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation

V-ATPase consists of a cytosolic V1 domain and a transmembrane V0 domain.
The V1 domain includes subunits A, B, G, C, D, E, F, and H, and contains the ATP catalytic site.
ATP6V1C2 gene produces alternate splice variants encoding different V1 domain C subunit isoforms.
