Target Information
The piggyBac family of proteins are transposases found in various animals and are related to the canonical piggyBac transposon from Trichoplusia ni. Human genomes include genes derived from piggyBac transposons, belonging to the PGBD subfamily. PGBD proteins are novel and not related to other known transposases or protein families. This gene product is specifically expressed in the brain, though its exact function remains unknown. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein.
