Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and is a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is produced as a single-chain precursor that is later cleaved into light and heavy chains. Mature MPO forms a tetramer consisting of two light and two heavy chains. This enzyme generates hypohalous acids crucial for neutrophil microbicidal activity. MPO-related diseases include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
