Target Information
eRF3a (eukaryotic peptide chain release factor subunit 3a), also known as GSPT1 (G1 to S phase transition 1), is a 499 amino acid protein belonging to the GTP-binding elongation factor family. It regulates cell growth by controlling translation termination. Human eRF3a shares 94% sequence identity with mouse eRF3a, indicating conserved function. The gene encoding eRF3a is located on chromosome 16, which contains over 900 genes and represents about 3% of the human genome. Mutations in the GAN gene on chromosome 16 can cause giant axonal neuropathy, a neurodegenerative disorder.
