COL2A1은 type II collagen의 alpha-1 chain으로, 연골 및 안구 유리체에 존재하는 섬유성 콜라겐입니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 achondrogenesis, chondrodysplasia, 조기 발병 가족성 골관절염, SED congenita, Langer-Saldino achondrogenesis, Kniest dysplasia, Stickler syndrome type I, spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Strudwick type 등과 관련이 있습니다. 또한, 이 콜라겐의 C-propeptide인 chondrocalcin의 처리 결함도 연골형성 이상과 관련이 있습니다.
