Target Information

IKBKE is an activator of nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-κB). Overexpression of IKBKE has been observed in breast cancer cells, and suppression of IKBKE induces cell death.
NF-κB is a ubiquitous transcription factor and an essential mediator of gene expression during activation of immune and inflammatory responses.
NF-κB mediates the expression of various genes in response to extracellular stimuli and is associated with IκB proteins in the cytoplasm, which inhibit NF-κB activity.
IκB is phosphorylated by the IκB kinase (IKK) complex containing IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-γ.
A novel molecule in the IKK complex, IKK-iota/IKK-i (IKKε), is required for activation of NF-κB by PMA and T cell receptors but not by TNF-α or IL-1.
IKK-iota/IKK-i message is expressed in various tissues and is inducible by TNF-α, IL-1, and LPS.
