Target Information
The PCDHGC3/PCDH2 gene belongs to the protocadherin gamma gene cluster located on chromosome 5. This cluster exhibits an immunoglobulin-like organization and includes 22 genes divided into three subfamilies (A, B, and C).
Each variable region exon encodes the extracellular region with six cadherin ectodomains and a transmembrane region, while the constant region exons encode a shared cytoplasmic region.
These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are believed to play essential roles in establishing and maintaining specific neuronal connections in the brain.
Alternative splicing has been observed for the gamma cluster genes.
