ITGA3 (Integrin, Alpha-3)
Also known as CD49C, VLA3, or GAPB3, ITGA3 is a cell surface adhesion molecule encoded by the ITGA3 gene located on chromosome 17q21.33. It forms half of the α3β1 integrin duplex, which plays a role in neural migration and corticogenesis alongside the β1 subunit.
DAB1 phosphorylation and ITGA3 signaling are linked to the detachment of migrating neurons from radial glial fibers. Expression of human ITGA3 increases viral infectivity in Chinese hamster ovary cells.
ITGA3 contains 13 potential N-glycosylation sites, 2 potential cleavage sites, and 7 N-terminal repeating units typical of integrins. Recombinant ITGA3 is expressed as a 150-kDa protein, similar to the native form observed in Western blot analysis.
