Description
Viva columns are based on a wide-pore material designed for optimal large-molecule separations. Many commercial wide-pore silicas meet the 300 Å mean pore size but have broad distributions, leaving much of the pore volume below 150 Å. This reduces surface area availability for larger molecules. Viva columns maintain a narrow pore size distribution, allowing more silica surface to contribute to separation efficiency.
The Restek C8 column is a conventional monomeric octylsilane phase with a shorter alkyl chain, providing less hydrophobic retention and improved basic peak shape compared to C18 phases. It is suitable for a wide range of compounds from acidic to slightly basic.
