Annexins은 칼슘 의존성 인지질 결합 단백질로 구성된 단백질 군이며, 각 단백질은 4개의 내부 반복 도메인을 포함하고 있습니다. 각 도메인은 type II calcium-binding site를 가지고 있으며, 이 결합 부위는 annexins가 음이온성 인지질 및 세포외 기질 단백질과 결합하는 데 필요합니다.
Annexin A9은 이 단백질 군의 특이한 구성원으로, 4개의 보존된 type II calcium-binding site 모두 기능이 상실된 아미노산 치환을 가지고 있습니다. 그러나 구조 분석에 따르면 tetrad core에 의해 형성된 보존된 이온 채널은 유지되어 있는 것으로 보입니다.
