Target Information

CRTH2 (GPR44) is a chemoattractant receptor-homologous molecule expressed on Th2 cells and acts as a receptor for prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). It mediates chemotaxis of Th2 cells and eosinophils to PGD2, playing a key role in allergic responses. Studies indicate that CRTH2 deficiency enhances eosinophil recruitment and cytokine production (IL-5, IL-3), suggesting its regulatory role in eosinophilia.
CRTH2 is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed in Th2 lineage cells, CNS, peripheral tissues, and blood cells. Two transcripts (3.5 kb and 3.4 kb) are expressed in various tissues including brain regions, fetal liver, leukocytes, and thymus.
CRTH2 is selectively expressed in activated Th2 cells, particularly allergen-responsive ones, and is associated with asthma susceptibility via SNPs in its 3’ UTR region.
At least two isoforms of CRTH2 are known.
