Target Information
PDGFRB is a receptor tyrosine kinase implicated in atherogenesis and cell transformation by the SIS oncogene. These growth factors act as mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The receptor’s ligand determines whether it forms a homodimer or heterodimer with PDGFRA. The PDGFRB gene, located on chromosome 5, is adjacent to GM-CSF and M-CSFR genes, all potentially involved in the 5-q syndrome. A translocation between chromosomes 5 and 12 that fuses PDGFRB (CD140b) with the ETV6 leukemia gene results in chronic myeloproliferative disorder with eosinophilia.
