Granzyme B is a granule serine protease stored in NK and cytotoxic T cells. It plays a critical role in inducing apoptosis in target cells during immune responses. Granzyme B serves as a useful marker for identifying NK/T-cell lymphomas. High cytotoxic T-cell percentages have been associated with poor prognosis in Hodgkin’s disease.
Target Information
Granzyme B belongs to the granzyme serine protease family and is localized in cytotoxic T cell and NK cell granules. Known also as CGL1 or CTLA-1, it is expressed in activated cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Granzyme B induces apoptosis through caspase-3 activation and mitochondrial pathways (via Bid cleavage). It interacts with the mannose 6-phosphate receptor as a death receptor during cytotoxic T cell-induced apoptosis. Granzymes (A–G in mouse) are neutral serine proteases; in humans, fewer types have been identified.
