Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S12E family. Located in the cytoplasm, its expression is increased in colorectal cancers compared to normal colonic mucosa.
As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
