Target Information

DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in processes such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome/spliceosome assembly. Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth/division.
The DHX16 gene encodes a DEAD box protein homologous to fission yeast Prp8, involved in cell cycle progression. It is mapped to chromosome 6p21.3 within the MHC region, linked to various malignant, genetic, and autoimmune diseases. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
