Target Information
This gene encodes the D4 subtype of the dopamine receptor, a G-protein coupled receptor that inhibits adenylyl cyclase. It is a target for drugs used in the treatment of schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease. Mutations in this gene are associated with behavioral phenotypes such as autonomic nervous system dysfunction, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and novelty-seeking traits. The gene contains a polymorphic number (2–10 copies) of tandem 48 nt repeats; the shown sequence contains four repeats.
