Target Information

MLCK (also known as MYLK3) is a member of the myosin regulatory light chain kinases that facilitate muscle contraction. It belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and phosphorylates the N-terminal serine of myosin light chains (MLC), promoting interaction with actin filaments.
MLCK plays a key role in vascular permeability, tissue edema formation, astrocytic process growth, and neurotransmitter release at sympathetic synapses. It is involved in fibroblast apoptosis signaling and is expressed in various adult and fetal tissues.
Non-muscle isoform 2 is the dominant splice variant, and the Telokin isoform binds calmodulin. MLCK contains one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains and is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation.
