BEST3는 Bestrophin 계열의 음이온 채널 단백질로, BEST1, BEST2, BEST4와 함께 유사한 구조를 가집니다. BEST1은 vitelliform macular dystrophy (VMD)와 관련된 유전자이며, Bestrophin 단백질들은 RFP 모티프를 포함하는 고도로 보존된 transmembrane 영역을 공유합니다. 이 단백질들은 8개의 RFP-TM 도메인 인코딩 엑손으로 구성된 유사한 유전자 구조를 가지고 있으며, 각 BEST 유전자는 고유한 3' 말단을 가집니다.
