Target Information
Histidine decarboxylase (HDC) is a pyridoxal phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzyme responsible for catalyzing the decarboxylation of histidine to produce histamine. Histamine functions as a biogenic amine involved in neurotransmission, gastric acid secretion, and regulation of smooth muscle tone. HDC is a homodimeric enzyme highly specific for its histidine substrate.
