This gene belongs to the semaphorin family and encodes a protein containing an Ig-like C2-type domain, a PSI domain, and a Sema domain. This secreted protein functions as a chemorepulsive or chemoattractive agent, regulating axonal outgrowth and dendritic growth, and is essential for normal neuronal pattern development. Elevated expression is linked to schizophrenia and observed in various human tumor cell lines. Abnormal release is associated with Alzheimer’s disease progression.
