ZNF238 is a sequence-specific DNA-binding protein with transcriptional repression activity. It binds the consensus DNA sequence 5'-[AC]ACATCTG[GT][AC]-3', which contains the E-box core. ZNF238 may play a role in the organization of chromosomes in the nucleus.
C2H2-type zinc finger proteins, such as ZNF238, act as transcriptional activators or repressors and are involved in chromatin assembly.
