EXD1은 정자형성 과정 중 piRNA 처리에 필요한 다단백질 복합체인 PET 복합체의 RNA 결합 구성 요소입니다. piRNA 대사 과정은 Piwi 단백질과 복합체를 형성하여 이동성 유전 요소의 전이를 억제하며, 이는 생식세포의 유전적 안정성을 유지하는 데 필수적입니다. PET 복합체는 PIWIL2 절단에 의해 유도된 PIWIL4 piRNA의 적재 과정에 필요하며, EXD1은 복합체 내에서 RNA 어댑터로 작용할 가능성이 있습니다. EXD1은 비활성 엑소뉴클레이스입니다.
