Anti-Transferrin Antibody, Biotin Conjugated, is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion-exchange chromatography followed by extensive dialysis against the buffer stated above.
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Biotin, anti-Rabbit Serum, and purified or partially purified Transferrin [Human Serum].
Cross-reactivity with Transferrin from other sources may occur but has not been specifically determined.

Target Information

Transferrins (Tf) are approximately 80 kDa blood plasma glycoproteins synthesized by the liver. They are iron-binding transport proteins capable of binding two Fe³⁺ ions along with an anion, usually bicarbonate. Transferrin transports iron from absorption and degradation sites to storage and utilization sites.
Under normal conditions, about one-third of total blood transferrin contains bound iron. Measurement of transferrin levels can indicate blood iron-carrying capacity and abnormalities such as anemia, iron overload, and haemochromatosis. Serum transferrin may also stimulate cell proliferation.
