Target Information
The MFAP5 gene encodes a 25-kDa microfibril-associated glycoprotein rich in serine and threonine residues. It lacks a hydrophobic carboxyl terminus and proline-, glutamine-, and tyrosine-rich regions, which are characteristic of the related 31-kDa MFAP2 protein. The similarity between MFAP5 and MFAP2 is limited to a central region of 60 amino acids containing seven conserved cysteine residues. These structural differences suggest that MFAP5 has distinct biological functions compared to MFAP2.
