The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the CARD protein family, characterized by the presence of a caspase-associated recruitment domain (CARD). This domain mediates protein-protein interactions involved in activation or suppression of CARD-containing caspase family members, playing a regulatory role in apoptosis. CARD9 interacts with the CARD domain of BCL10, a positive regulator of apoptosis and NF-κB activation, functioning as a molecular scaffold for BCL10 signaling complex assembly that activates NF-κB. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed, though their full-length structures remain unclear.
